Station 18

Built by members, the current station was completed in 1981. The station has five apparatus bays, a communications room, chief's office, training room, lounge, restrooms, air compressor/work room, furnace room and an attic for storage.  The station also features an exhaust ventilation system for all apparatus.  The ventilation system was installed by Plymo-vent exhaust systems.  There are only a few stations in the area that have an exhaust system for their apparatus.

2006 Ford F-450/Utility
Brush has seating for 6 firefighters and a skid unit built by Pierce with a 200 gallon tank and a 500gpm high pressure pump.  The skid unit also has a 30 gallon foam tank and is equipped with a 1" booster line and 1" hand line.  This unit is also capable of drafting.   This unit replaced the "Brush Buggy" and our utility.  This unit will be first out on all brush and medical assist calls and will also transport a crew for our second line engine when needed. B18 is certified by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems as a BLS first responder unit.

Squad 18

2006 KME Preditor
Squad has seating for 8 firefighters and is equipped with a 6 bottle air cascade system, 6 hurst hydraulic reels, light tower, RIT equipment, and EMS equipment.  This unit is first due on all motor vehicle collisions and runs first due on all RIT calls. SQ18 is certified by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems as a BLS first responder unit.

Engine 182

1998 Pierce Dash
Formerly known as 18-12, Engine 182 has seating for 6 firefighters and has a 1250gpm/1000 gallon, 10" rear dump valve, Hurst combination extrication tool, RIT equipped.  E182 is equipped as an Engine-Rescue.  E182 is first due engine and can be used as a second extrication unit or a second tanker.  E182 is certified by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems as a BLS first responder unit.

Tanker 18

1991 Ford/4Guys
Formerly known as 18-20, Tanker 18 has seating for 2 firefighters and a 1000gpm/2500 gallon.  Tanker has a 10" dump valve on each side and the rear.  Tanker has a front mounted pump.  Tanker runs mutual aid to a large area due to a shortage of tankers and water supply in nearby areas.

Engine 181

1986 Chevrolet/Grumman Firecat
Formerly known as 18-11, Engine 181 has seating for 2 firefighters and has a 1000gpm/1000 gallon.  E181 is used as a second due engine on structure related calls and first due on brush/wildland fires. E181 is the first due engine to certain areas of our first due area.  Those areas include the Mountain View Landfill, several area coal mines, several area farms, and some unpaved county roads within our response area.

John Deere Gator 6x4
Seating for 2 firefighters and equipped for brush/wildland fires.  This unit was purchased with a Department of Natural Resources grant.
 

 

The new social hall and firemen's tavern was constructed in 2011 and was a much needed upgrade from the old building.  The building is equipped with a more modern kitchen to support dinners as well as the tavern.

Old Garage

The "Old Garage" is attached to the rear of our social hall and is located across the street from our current station.  The old station use to have two garage doors and housed two(2) engines and a tanker.  The old station was remodeled in the 1990's and is currently the home for UTV 18 and the trailer to haul it, as well as our fuel tanks, portable pumps, spare hose, and extra equipment.

Old Social Hall and Firemen's Tavern

The social hall, formerly the J.H. Marshall building, was purchased in 1931 and served the department until the construction of the new social hall was completed in 2011.  In 1942, a concrete block addition was added to the rear of the building and was used to house the apparatus.  The chiefs office and training room were located in the basement of the social hall.  In 1944, another addition has added to the social hall.  This time the addition was added to the north side of the building and was the location of the firemen's tavern.  The firemen's tavern was relocated to the new social hall in 2011.

1968 Jeep

Unit #:18-60/Brush 18   (In service from 1978 until 2007)
This unit was a 1968 military surplus jeep converted into a brush truck by the members of the department and served the department until 2007 when placed out of service and replaced by the new brush truck.  Unit was given the nickname "Brush Buggy".

1987 Chevrolet Suburban

Unit #:18-30/Utility 18   (In service from 1995 until 2007)
1987 Chevorlet Suburban
This unit was purchased from the Corriganville VFC for the purpose of running medical assist calls and to transport manpower to all other types of calls.  This unit was placed out of service by the new brush truck.  This unit was equipped with enough BLS equipment to transport patients to awaiting ambulances in severe weather conditions and rough terrain.

1971/75 Ford/Swab

Unit #:18-40/Sqaud 18
1971 chassis, 1975 body.  The body of this unit served the department from 1975 until 2006.  The chassis served the department from the mid 1990's.  The chassis was obtained from the Bethesda Fire Department in Montgomery Co., MD.  The upgrade was from a Ford gasoline cab over to a Ford desiel conventional cab.

1974 GMC/White tanker

Unit #: 18-21   (In service from 1985 until 1991)
1974 GMC/White tanker truck.  This unit was bought from the Hess Oil Co. to be used as second tanker.  When the unit was first brought to Midland, it was a dark green color and was nicknamed the "Green Weenie".  This unit was capable of carrying 3500 gallons of water.  This unit was replaced with the 1991 Ford/4Guys tanker.

1975 Ford/Swab rescue

Unit #: 18-40
1975 Ford/Swab rescue truck was one of few rescue trucks equipped with extrication equipment in the county in 1975.  The unit was received a new chassis upgrade in the late 90's from the old cab over Ford gas motor to a 1971 Ford desiel motor.  The 1971 chassis served the Bethesda Fire Department in Montgomery County, MD as Engine 201.

1967 Ford/Boardman pumper

Unit #: 18-12   (In service from 1967 until 1998)
1967 Ford/Boardman was the only Boardman pumper to ever be delivered in the State of Maryland.  It had a 750gpm Waterous pump and a 1000 gallon booster tank with a 500gpm deck gun and dual booster lines.  This unit was replaced in May 1998 by the Peirce Dash.

1959 Ford/Central pumper

Unit #: 18-11   (In service from 1959 until 1986)
1959 Ford/Central pumper had a 500gpm pump and a 1000 gallon booster tank.  This unit also had dual booster lines and dual sirens mounted on the corners of the cab below the windshield.  This unit was replaced by the 1986 Chevrolet Grumman.

 

Unit #: 18-20
1956 Ford tanker. Unit was bulit by members on a Ford chassis and was capable of carrying 1650 gallons of water and had a 500gpm front mounted pump.  Unit was in service until 1991 when replaced by the Ford/4Guys tanker.

The building in the background is the Midland Town Hall which served as the fire department from 1900-1931.
