5/6/10 - Mutual Aid MVC with Entrapment
At 1920hrs., Co.18 was alerted mutual aid on a MVC with entrapment on Interstate 68 EB at
the 32mm. The incidnet involved a passenger car that had rear ended a tractor-trailer at high speed. The vehicle
was wedged under the rear of the trailer. E171 arrived on scene first with CF17 as command. I68 command requested
an additional squad and engine company to assist. Due to the location of the incident being close to the county line,
Garrett County started an engine and squad from Sta.80. After SQ85 and E81 responded, command requested the Squad from
Co.18 to the scene. SQ18 responded with a crew of 8 with CF18 as officer. The squad crew was told by command to
bring our airbags and res-q jacks to the rear of the trailer and to have our cribbing and extrication tools layed out ready.
The squad arrived on scene and made quick work of getting things set up. The patients condition began to rapidly decline
and it was decided to perform a rapid extrication of the victim. The patient was assessed by the EMS unit and was then
transferred to Trooper 5 and flown to the trauma center at WMHS-RMC as a priority 1. The squad crew picked up and was
placed in service by command. Extrication time of the patient was about 40 minutes.

5/6/10 - Second Alarm Business Fire - Box 171 - MA Co.17
At 0008hrs., Co.18 was alerted mutual aid on a working business fire in the 13000 block
of Upper George's Creek Rd. E171 was clearing a gas leak in a 16 Box when the first alert went out. Dispatch advised
E171 that they had several calls on this fire and was upgrading the box to a working assignment. Units clearing the
gas leak checked up with dispatch and were on the scen within a few minutes. E172 responded from Station 17 and was
first to arrive on scene. The crew from E172 was faced with a fully involved service truck inside the garage with extension
to the building. E171 arrived second and established a water supply. E182 responded with a crew of 6 with CF18
as officer. SQ18 responded with a crew of 7 with AC18-A as officer. The engine crew was advised by command (CF17-Yates)
to stage at the hydrant just south on the incident. The squad crew went to the scene and was assigned RIT. Units
operated on the scene for about an hour before being released by command.

04/11/10 - Residential Working Fire Assignment - Mutual Aid 20 Box
At 2250hrs., Co.18 was alerted mutual aid on a residential garage fire. E182 responded
with a crew of 6 with CF18 as officer. ER20 arrived on scene and layed a 5" supply from the hydrant at Union and Main
St., and upgarded the assignment to the working fire with a fully involved garage and a construction dumpster well off
with extension into the residence and a vehicle. E182 was advised to come in to the scene and pull a line to protect
the residence. SQ18 responded with a crew of 8 with Capt.18-B as officer. The squad crew was assigned overhaul
of the garage. T18 responded with a crew of 2 and was staged on Main St. E181 held in station with a crew of 3.
Command was held by CF20 and after a quick knock down on the garage, the working assignment was placed in service. Command
held Co.20 units, E182, and SQ18 on the scene for about and hour. Command requested a FM to the scene and released all
units as ready. Co.18 was in service at 0004hrs.

03/09/10 - Rescue Box 18-5 MVC - New George's Creek Rd.
At 1636hrs., Co.18 along with co.53 were alerted for a reported head-on MVC on New George's
Creek Rd. near the Mountain View Landfill. SQ18 responded with a crew of 7 with CF18 as officer. E182 responded
with a crew of 2 with AC18-A as officer. SQ18 arrived on scene to find a passenger car that had struck a pick-up truck
in the drivers side. The driver of the car was still in the vehicle and the driver of the pick-up was out of his vehicle.
CF18 established the New George's Creek Rd. Command and advised E182 to position on the north side of the accident and block
both north and southbound lanes. FP18 arrived on scene and blocked the northbound traffic south of the accident scene.
Co.14 was alerted to respond to the intersection of New George's Creek Rd. and Vale Summit Rd. to divert traffic away from
the accident scene. ET14 responded to the intersection. The crew from the squad began to assess the patients of
both vehicles. PM355 arrived on scene and patient care was turned over to EMS. The driver of the pick-up truck
refused treatment and transport. The driver of the car was transported to WMHS-RMC. The roadway was shut down
a short time while debris from the accident was cleared from the roadway and ACBOP reconstructed the accident. Units
were on the scene for about an hour.

02/27/10 - Working Residential Fire - Deal Ave. - MA Co.2
At 1211hrs., Co.18 was alerted mutual aid for the RIC assignment on Deale Ave. in LaVale.
SQ18 responded with a crew of 8 with DC18 as officer. The squad arrived on scene and established a staging area on side
Alpha. The squad crew was the RIC team for a short time before being reassigned to assist with over-haul. The crew
assisted with some minor over-haul and was released by command a short time afterwards. SQ18 cleared the scene within
the hour.

02/26/10 - MVC/multi-vehicle w/Entrapment - I68 EB @ 30MM
At 1042hrs., Co.18 was alerted mutual aid for a multi-vehicle accident on I68 EB at the 30mm
involving 4 passenger cars and 2 tractor-trailers. SQ18 responded with a crew of 8 with DC18 as officer. SQ18
arrived on scene as the 3rd arriving squad and was assigned to assist with extrication. The incident was first alerted
through Garrett County and then transferred to Allegany County which brought additional units to the scene. The squad
crew also assisted with controlling the fuel spill from one of the tractor-trailers. The squad remained on scene for
more than an hour. Due to the fuel spill and the damage that occured to one tractor-trailer, Co.48 was alerted to off
load the remaining fuel from the fuel tanks. Four patients were transported to WMHS-RMC, 3 with minor injuries and 1
with serious injuries.

02/25/10 - MVC/multi-vehicle - I68 WB @ 31MM - MA Co.17
At 1631hrs., Co.18 was alerted mutual aid to Co.16 for a MVC with entrapment on New George's
Creek Rd. SQ18 responded with a crew of 8 with CF18 as officer. While enroute, SQ16 diverted from a previous call
on I68 to the MVC on New George's Creek Rd. CF16 arrived on scene and advised dispatch that since SQ16 diverted
to the MVC on New George's Creek Rd. to re-route SQ18 to the previous call on I68 if needed. I68 Command requested SQ18
to respond to the 33mm and shut down the interstate. SQ18 arrived on scene at I68 WB at the 33mm and shut down the interstate.
ET14 was enroute to assist and was advised by command to assume the traffic detail at the 33mm and for SQ18 to proceed to
the accident scene. SQ18 diverted to the scene and assisted with evaluating patients and packaging pateints for transport.
The incident involved 10-15 vehicles that were all involved in minor MVC's. SQ18 remained on the scene for more than
an hour.

02/20/10 - Structural Collapse - East Main St. - MA Co.16
At 0910hrs., Co.18 was alerted for the squad to transfer
to Co.16, Station 2 for standby and to have and engine crew standby at Co.18. SQ18 responded with a crew of 6 with FF-J.Monahan
as officer. E182 held in station with a crew of 6 with Lt.18-A as officer. The call was first alert as an
AFA and then was for smoke in the kitchen area. After first arriving units from Co.16 assessed the situation and found
a small part of the ceiling collapsed, those crews began to assist residence to evacuate the building until the scene
could be secured. While crews were on the second floor, the remainder of the ceiling and roof collapsed over the dinning
hall part of the building due to the weight of snow of the roof. During the incident, E181 and B18 handled a public
service call on Cemetery Rd. in Midland. While units were clearing from the public service, SQ18 was transferred from
Co.16, Station 2 to the scene to assist with search and rescue/recovery operations. E182 was then transferred to Co.16,
Station 2 to cover the standby assignment. CF18 responded to the scene to assist the collapse team and once arrived
on scene was directed to assist with command staffing by CF16. ER20 was relocated to Co.18 for the standby assignment.
The crew from SQ18 was assigned to do a secondary search of the structure and to account for all residents being sheltered
at a nearby business. CF18 was assigned to assist DPS officials with accounting for all residents at the nearby business
and to monitor when residents were allowed to return to their apartments and when they returned to the staging area. The
building was finally condemmed by city officials and units were able to clear the scene several hours later.

02/12/10 - Second Alarm Residential Fire - LaVale Ave. - MA Co.2
At 1922hrs., Co.18 was alerted for the RIC assignment on the working fire assignment on LaVale
Ave. in LaVale. SQ18 responded with a crew of 8 with AC18-A as officer. The squad was the 5th arriving unit and
was advised by command to set up on side Charlie of the building and to meet up with the Operations Officer. The squad
crew performed a 360-walkaround of the building and assisted with supplying lighting for interior crews. The fire was
found to be in the basement and quickly spread to the first floor and attic. Crews on the scene were faced with extreme
cold temperatures and recent snow accumulation of near 30 inches which hampered the firefighting efforts. Squad 18 remained
on the scene for more than 2 hours before being released by command.

02/08/10 - Heavy Equipment Fire - Old Coney Cemetery Rd. - MA Co.20
At 1449hrs., Co.18 was alerted for a vehicle fire on Cemetery Rd. in Midland. E181 responded
with a crew of 2 with CF18 as officer. Further information was given to E181 and the incident was determined to be in
Co.20's first due area on Old Coney Cemetery Rd. just south of Co.18's first due area. Co.20 was alerted and CF20 arrived
on scene and advised Co.18 units to respond to assist. T18 responded with 2 and B18 responded with 5 with Lt.18-A as
officer. MP20 was the first arriving unit and began an direct attack on a Yuke dump-truck at a mining site off of Old
Coney Cemetery Rd. T18 supplied MP20 and the crew from B18 assisted with a secondary handline to extinguish the fire.
Command was held by CF20. All units cleared the scene within an hour.

01/22/10 - Possible Flue Fire - Box 18-1
At 2129hrs., Co.18 was alerted along with Co. 20 and Co.55 for a possible flue fire on Paradise
St. in Midland. E182 responded with a crew of 6 with AC18-A as officer. SQ18 responded with a crew of 7 with Lt.18-A
as officer. CF18 arrived on scene and found normal conditions. The report was for sparks to be coming out of the
chimney when the 911 call was made, but by the time units arrived there was no fire to be found. Paradise St. Command
was held by AC18-A. After a confrontation from the home owner, command was terminated and units cleared the scene.

01/07/10 - Residential Box 18-1 House Fire
At 2020hrs., Co.18 was alerted along with Co.20 and Co.55 for a possible fire in the attic on Omara Ave.
in Midland. Co.18 responded with a full response. E182 with a crew of 6 with CF18 as officer. SQ18 with
a crew of 8 with AC18-A as officer. T18 with a crew of 2 with FF-E.Campbell as officer, B18 with a crew of 4 with DC18
as officer. And E181 with a crew of 2 with FF-B.Blair as officer. E182 layed a 3" supply from the hydrant at O'mara
Ave. and New George's Creek Rd. E182 arrived on scene and CF18 established the O'mara Ave. Command with light smoke
coming from the second floor on side Bravo. AC18-A took the crews inside and found a small fire in a second floor bedroom.
DC18 had operations. E181 responded to the hydrant at Carr's Alley and Big Lane to establish a secondary water supply.
ER20 arrived on scene at the hydrant at O'mara Ave. and New George's Creek Rd. and was advised to standby there and remain
in service. All other units were placed in service. Units cleared and command terminated within an hour.
