Tuesday, January 3, 2012 - Flue Fire Box 1803
At 1942hrs. Allegany County Communications alerted the 1803 Box for a Flue Fire on Paradise Hill Lane.  E182 responded,crew of 6 with AC18-A (Monahan) as officer.  E182 arrived on scene to a single story, single family, wood frame structure with sparks coming from the flue.  AC18-A established the Paradise Hill command and advised all other units to stage on Dans Rock Rd. due to the snow covered roadway leading to the residence.  The engine crew quickly gained access to the roof and to the basement area to check the wood stove and flue.  The roof crew used dry chemical bombs to knock down the bulk of the fire and used a chimney brush to clean the flue.  The interior crew cleaned out the fireplace at the bottom of the flue and extinguished and removed the remaining build up inside the flue.  Crews from U20 and ER20 came to te scene to assist.  The crew from ER20 checked the walls with thermal imaging and found normal conditions.  Units cleared the scene within an hour.

Friday, January 20, 2012 - House Fire Box 1601
At 0305hrs. Allegany County dispatch alerted RIT-18 for the Residential Working Fire on East Main St. in Frostburg.  First arriving units found fire coming from a second floor window on side Alpha.  SQ18 responded with a crew of six.  The Squad crew set up RIT on side Alpha and assisted other crews with exterior duties.  The crew was later reassigned to assist with overhaul.  The fire was contained to a second story bedroom.  The Squad crew operated on the scene for several hours before being released by command.

Friday, January 20, 2012 - 4th Alarm Fatal Fire Box 0103
At 0708hrs. Allegany County EOC alerted SQ18 on the 4th Alarm assignment for a rowhouse fire on East Harrison St. in Cumberland.  The intial alarm was reported to the EOC with entrapment on the second floor.  First arriving firefighters from Cumberland rescued a female victim from the second floor on side Alpha.  Cumberland FD ambulance transported the subject to WMRMC were she was pronounced deceased.  SQ18 responded with a crew of seven.  SQ18 arrived on scene and was staged near the intersection of East Harrison and Park St.  The crew reported to the command post and was assigned to perform a secondary search of the second floor of the primary fire building.  The secondary search was negative.  The interior crew from the Squad was then used to perform overhaul in the same area they performed the search.  Two members of the crew were utilized to extinguish fire burning along the roof on the Bravo side of the structure.  During overhaul operations, a crew from Cumberland FD found the second victim in the rear of the second floor. Crews remained on the scene throughout the morning working to extinguish hot spots.  The Squad operator utilized the cascade system to assist with refilling SCBA's on the Delta side of the structure.  The fire was deemed out and mutual aid crews were releaseed around 1330hrs.  The fire destroyed two rowhouses and damaged a third rowhouse.  Smoke detectors were not present in any of the rowhouses involved.  Fire Marshals from Cumberland FD and the State are investigating the cause of the fire.
